The Best Destinations for a Luxury Cruise

*This post is brought to you by our sponsors but all opinions herein are my own*

One of the best things about going on a cruise is that you will visit some of the most luxurious destinations that the world has to offer all in one trip. Although it may surprise you, I think that cruising is an awesome way to see the world. While it doesn’t give you the full experience, it gives you a taste so that you can determine the places that you would want to return to for a longer trip.

Here are three locations which are guaranteed to take your breath away as soon as they come into sight from a ship’s deck. These are three places on my travel bucket list for sure!

French Riviera Cruises

The French and Italian Rivieras

It is impossible to pick the most extravagant destination when you are deciding between the French Riviera and the nearby Italian Riviera. Fortunately, many cruises will take you around the glamorous sights and relaxed sounds of each location.

Wine and dine like a king or queen in St. Tropez and Monte Carlo when on French shores, before taking in the spectacular Italian island of Capri and the quaint town of Taormina in Sicily, on a trip that you will not soon forget. To this day, Taormina is one of my favorite destinations I’ve visited.

Ideal cruise – The Azamara Quest with Azamara Cruises. This 12-night voyage will take you from Nice in France to Venice in Italy, meaning that you will sail past the best that both country’s Rivieras have to offer.

Best Luxury Cruise Destination

St Petersburg

There is plenty to see during a break in the Russian city of St Petersburg, but the extraordinary building known as the Hermitage Museum has to be the top of every sightseer’s list of things to see and do.

Inside the building itself, you will be in awe as you feast your eyes over three million amazing pieces of art and artefacts housed here. Then there is the museum’s exterior, which dazzles in a golden and bronze tone during the night – even the river that passes by lights up in a truly marvellous scene.

Ideal cruise – The Waterways of the Tsars voyage with Viking River Cruises. Towards the end of your 13-day cruise from Moscow to St Petersburg, you will have the chance to go behind closed doors and discover even more about The Hermitage Museum.

The Upper Rhine

You will surely have heard about The Rhine River. More than 1,200km long, this extensive stretch of water starts in the Swiss Alps and gently winds its way through Liechtenstein, Austria, Germany, France and finally out to the North Sea in the Netherlands.

While there are many amazing sights along the river, the Upper Rhine in Germany is one of the most luxurious attractions. This is due to the lovely riverside town of Karlsruhe, home to the lavish Rastatt Palace.

Ideal cruise – The Romantic Rhine and Moselle cruise with Scenic Tours. During your 15-day trip between Amsterdam and Basel, this voyage stops off at Karlsruhe. While here, you will enjoy a private tour of the 18th-century Rastatt Palace – the building is modeled after Versailles so you are in for a treat – before watching a classical music concert and feasting on delicious cuisine in a banquet fit for royalty.
