Must See Things to Do in Koh Samui

We went on our honeymoon to Koh Samui, was it my favorite part of the trip? For certain things. Mostly relaxing and sitting by the glorious beach. I found it almost impossible to tear myself away from our gorgeous resort (Four Seasons Koh Samui) but I’m glad I did because the island is truly spectacular with so many things to see and do, it would be a shame to sit around all day while on the other side of the world! So here are the things I think are worth seeing, those worthy of being active during prime beach hours.

Angthong National Park: This is one thing that falls into my must-see category. You can hire a private boat if you’re feeling like a baller but there are also tours you can sign up for. Basically the park consists of a whole mess of stunning, untouched, beautiful islands. You can hike em or just enjoy the boat ride through depending on your tour.

Namuang Waterfall: The waterfall here, which is actually two together is absolutely glorious and a beautiful destination if you’re looking to go somewhere romantic. You can get to the smaller waterfall by car but be prepared for a hike if you’re in the mood for the big one!

Wat Khunaram: Want to see a mummified monk? It’s a bit freaky but it’s actually pretty fascinating. It’s also a pretty popular temple so you will be able to see Buddhists coming to pray. Just remember to be respectful. Don’t have too many pina coladas before your visit here.

Grandma and Grandpa Rocks: (Hin Ta and Hin Yai) Take some silly pictures here where you’ll find natural rock formations that basically look like the male and female, well, pee pee and hoo ha. Definitely a great photo opp to show friends and family just how mature you are.

Wat Phra Yai: Buddhist temple, it’s the island’s most famous landmark. It’s humongous and can be seen from many of the hotels. If you’ve been in Thailand for a while and you’re growing tired of temples, I would say you could probably skip this. Though it is cool to see, it’s not the end of the world if you miss it.

If you’ve been traveling around Southeast Asia like I had been (for nearly 3 weeks) and have seen temple after temple then these are some good activities for you to try out. You can squeeze in a few a day and then go back to enjoying the beach while feeling like you’ve still seen enough on the island to feel like you’ve been here.

Things I do not recommend: Our concierge told us that the monkey shows are not good and that the monkeys aren’t treated well. It apparently has upset lots of guests in the past to see this so not only would I not want to give them my money, you also just probably won’t like what you see.
