What to Do in New York City This Weekend for Bastille Day
Y’all know that despite my Ohio roots that I’m a Francophile at heart, right? So what better way to celebrate France than to enjoy some Bastille Day celebrations! Bastille Day marks a key moment in the French Revolution, the storming of the Bastille and eventual freedom for the masses. And this is why I love New York, check out all the cool things going on this weekend.
Calling all bon vivants! It’s time to storm the castle and celebrate independence with cocktails in hand at the French Spirits Soiree, this Saturday, July 13 in celebration of Bastille Day weekend! Brought to you by NYC’s cocktail insider The Dizzy Fizz, this elegant walk-around tasting will tickle your fancies, heighten your senses, and inspire joie de vivre in a scene evoking a forbidden French garden. There will be can-can performances and French house music by a live DJ. So get on your finest Parisian bo-ho getups and head down to Astor Center on Lafayette street.
The Parisian Ball will be held at Fête Paradiso, the world’s first festival of vintage carnival rides and carousels, which will open to the public on the morning of July 13 at Nolan Park on Governors Island. The event will have a fairytale-like environment where New York’s menagerie of communities can unite through music, art and the pursuit of magic. New York City is a melting pot of cultures, and at this event, attendees can expect to find many of these groups locked in unison. Just as it was in days of yore – the romantic splendour of the past channelled through the spirits of those who attend the Parisian Ball.
If you’re looking to just lay low, also look into the Bastille Day festival on 60th street. I’ve been to this and although certain aspects are a bit tired, the French food selection was actually quite good!
Couldn’t get my boyfriend out to Governor’s Island so we hit 60th Street and while the food selection was good, the crowds were so insane it was not at all fun. Next year, I’ll be going alone if I have to. Thanks for keeping us Francophiles informed!
