What to Do in Nevis for the Perfect Luxury Getaway
As y’all know I recently visited the stunning island of Nevis in the Caribbean. I stayed at the insanely beautiful Four Seasons Nevis. How could I not fall in love!? The trip was truly magical! And the magic is really thanks to its wonderful people–so down to earth and charming. Nevis is a sleepy island that’s perfect if you’re hoping to relax and unwind. Its gorgeous and unique landscape–a dormant volcano, sugar plantation ruins and plenty of greenery–make it the ideal stomping grounds for a luxurious Caribbean escape.
Here are my top picks for what to do in Nevis for the perfect luxurious getaway. While lazy days spent cocktailing and napping on the beach are a must, there are also many fabulous things to do if you know where to look.
1. Fantastic Voyage
The people are what make the island so special as I said so the best way to see the island is to have a local show you around. Take a car ride around the island with a hired driver who doubles as a guide will show you around the island and let you in on the best views and landmarks. Have your hotel hook you up with Cavelle Jeffers or Hillary Lightfoot, two of the island’s most popular guides.
2. Visit the Old Plantations
While you can certainly check out the ruins around the island, I highly recommend visiting some of the old sugar plantations that have been converted into luxury inns. My favorite is Montpelier Plantation, which once hosted Princess Diana and both her little princes. Come by and check out the stunning grounds and grab a drink or afternoon tea. Mill Privée, its luxury restaurant housed in the old sugar mill is one of the most romantic dining rooms I’ve ever seen. Golden Rock Inn is another beautiful old plantation. The views from its restaurant, The Rocks offers stunning views.
3. Get Stung by a Killer Bee
Sunshine’s Beach Lounge, located on Pinney’s beach is probably the island’s most famous watering hole. Celebrities like Ellen, Britney Spears and Kelly Ripa have all sipped the establishment’s famous “Killer Bee” rum punches. Sunshine, the bar’s namesake will warn you not to have too many or you’ll feel the sting the next morning–but I took my chances and think that it was worth it!
4. Explore Nevis’ Natural Wonders
Take a tour of the island’s waterfalls on a special rainforest hike or cycling excursion. I recommend booking a tour with Reggie Douglas Nevis Adventure Tours. If you’re hoping to really get your heart-rate going, book a half-day hike to Nevis Peak, the island’s solitary volcano (3,231 feet).
5. Nevis Botanical Gardens
The Botanical Gardens of Nevis is probably one of the most spectacular gardens I have visited in the entire world. It is cared for by its owner (and an enormous staff of course)–but it is truly a labor of love. The gardens feature ponds, fountains, a rainforest conservatory complete with a two-story waterfall and sculptures collected from all over the world. These picturesque gardens are nestled in the mountains and boast sweeping views of Mt. Nevis and the Caribbean Sea. I highly recommend sampling a Purple Rain cocktail, which features leaves from the bright purple butterfly pea flower, grown right on the property.
6. Vacation Like a Rock Star
I truly think that a large part of my wonderful experience in Nevis was because of The Four Seasons Nevis. Take advantage of everything this Five-Star gem has to offer. I highly recommend doing the Dive & Dine experience where you dive for your own lobsters with a dive master and have a private beach BBQ on the beach with one of the resort’s executive chefs. Experience VIP service in the comfort of your own private beach cabana. Dine at some of the island’s best restaurants, which are located right on the property. Or experience one of the most incredible spas I have ever been to in my life! Be sure to check out my review of this gem here.
7. Experience the Flavors of the Island
Be sure to stop by Mansa’s Farm, and pick up some delicious tropical fruits and veggies, all handpicked by Mansa, the owner and Rasta-farmer. If you’re lucky he’ll even sit down with you for a beer or glass of the house-brewed passion fruit wine. Paradise Drive-Thru and Bananas are also great local spots that serve up some of the island’s best and most authentic cuisine!
I would love to go to Nevis! The first place I would probably go to from your recommendations would be the botanical garden! I love taking a walk in beautiful gardens and seeing different flora.
I do like places where I can relax and enjoy at the same time.
I hope I can visit one day. Thanks for posting!
