Welcome Mrs. Goldstein: My Review of Charleston Place: My Pick for Best Luxury Hotel in Charleston
Back again with another episode in my “Welcome Mrs. Goldstein” series of hotel reviews. This time I dish about my experience and review Charleston Place Hotel, my top pick for over-the-top luxury hotels in Charleston.
For centuries, Charleston has been one of the most charming and vivacious cities in the US. Although it has some blemishes from its past, there is no doubt whatsoever that this southern gem is full of fascinating tales that will live on into posterity. Its history alone is enough to satisfy anyone looking for a memorable trip. However, as much as I enjoyed all of the folklore this city has to offer, for me, that is just the icing on the cake. This city is literally a Foodie’s heaven as its restaurants hold a candle to the best of them. Not only does this foodie’s paradise satiate its diners’ sophisticated and simple palates alike, but it also quenches its visitors’ yearnings to gallivant around a city that is both hip and vibrant. If you haven’t yet, read my picks for the Best Charleston Restaurants and Food Experiences. Overall, the “Holy City” has an edgy and happening night life, premier boutiques, a colorful history and last but not least, a hotel I consider to be one of a kind – Charleston Place, a truly luxurious Five Star hotel.
Charleston Place is the perfect hotel for this city as it bridges the old and new, culminating in a chic yet nostalgic auberge that both pleases its guests’ desire for peace and relaxation as well as their desire for fun and maybe just a tad bit of vice. Its grand Georgian Open Arm spiraling staircase surrounds an equally majestic chandelier of 12 feet, which scintillates in the lobby just like this gem of a city sparkles with pride throughout the south. This hotel is simply a hyperbola of the finest mansion or hotel for that matter that ever could have existed in the city’s heyday.
Welcome Mrs. Goldstein
When we checked in the staff was as pleasant as can be. Everyone at the desk seemed to welcome us, not just the wonderful man helping us. Our room wasn’t ready yet but because we were on the Club Level we were given a key that we could use that would allow us to access the 8th floor where the Club Lounge is so that we could enjoy the light breakfast as well as a place to rest. The breakfast spread was lovely, tables filled with delightful continental breakfast staples like croissants, fruit, yogurt, etc. There is also coffee, tea, etc.–even mimosas! All of this is included if you are a club level guest., which thankfully I was!
The Room
When our room was ready the front desk gave us a call to let us know. The Rooms stay in tune with the rest of the hotel in that they exude the character of the old south while remaining modern, luxurious, and welcoming. The rooms are ornately decorated and include artwork by local, prominent artists. Each guest room includes a separate work space, seating area, flat screen TV, high speed internet connection as well as just about anything else you would expect from the finest of hotels like perhaps the comfortable king-sized bed that allowed me to slip away into a lazy southern slumber.
Dining
Whether you are looking for world class dining or a swanky little club with some live music, you have chosen the right place. This hotel is home to The Charleston Grill, which is recognized as one of the best restaurants in the country and brags live jazz music daily. You can also dine at the Palmetto Café, which blends the freshness of the outdoors, with its garden and fountain, and the cool temperature and elegance of the indoors. Once you have dined with the utmost class and style, you can continue your enjoyment in the hotel’s Thoroughbred Club, which is a sophisticated and casual lounge that will serve your cocktail of choice, appetizers and desserts along with some live entertainment. So, whether you decide to partake in some fine dining or kick back and play it cool while you listen to some live music, Charleston Place will fulfill your desire for a great nightlife and a delicious meal.
Added bonus? The monster sushi platters served alongside cocktails in the Club Level Loung. Those guys are serving some sort of treat from morning until night!
Amenities
To add to all of this fun and southern comfort, the hotel boasts a full range spa, a fully-equipped gym and an amazing swimming pool that lies under a retractable glass roof. The hotel is located in a prime location of the city, especially close to the best shop on King Street, that is if the main floor’s worldclass stores don’t satisfy your shopping needs.
The Bottom Line
When you decide to make that wonderful choice to checkout Charleston and want to stay in hotel that is good enough for the likes of Oprah and Prince Charles, then Charleston Place is a wise choice. It fits the bill for what you would need to have a great experience. It’s elegant interior, recreational activities for both night and day and proximity to where you want to be make Charleston Place as close to a no-brainer as you can get.
