Local New York City Favorites: Artichoke Basille’s Pizza in the East Village, Greenwich Village and Chelsea

Whether you’re a local or a tourist, if you’re looking for the perfect slice of New York pizza, look no further than Artichoke Basil’s pizzeria and restaurant just east of Union Square in the East Village (one of several locales–others in Chelsea and Greenwich village). You can either grab a slice at the counter or order a pie at the small sit down outpost next door. You can expect a line out the door but it’s worth it, trust us! It’s a true testament to its popularity. Don’t be surprised though when you get inside, there is zero ambiance and servers act like they’re doing you a favor–but it’s New York! That’s part of the charm.

There are only a few pizzas available but what they make here they make well. Artichoke Basil is of course most famous for its Artichoke pizza, which is covered in a cream sauce blended with artichokes and spinach atop a crisp crust (remember the mad 90s craze of spinach and artichoke dip? it’s like that!). The Margarita pie, which is covered in the most delectable San marzano tomato sauce as well as fresh basil is incredible as well. Each slice is served piping hot to the point that you could suffer quite a pizza burn so be careful. Enjoy your slice on the benches outside while it’s fresh and come back and thank me later!
